Bassist, composer, educator, actor and Fayetteville native John Brown is the director of the jazz program and associate professor of the practice of music at Duke University as well as the director of the Triangle Youth Jazz Ensemble. His John Brown Quintet combines jazz originals with classics from John Coltrane, Duke Ellington, Miles Davis and Frank Sinatra, and his 2007 CD Terms of Art pays tribute to Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers.
The quintet brings its deep affection for jazz to the Davis Theatre in Concord on Saturday, Jan. 30, at 8 p.m.
