N.C. Poetry Out Loud 2010: “The Cross of Snow”

posted by ncarts in Poetry Month on 04 10th, 2010 | one response

Ruby Osorio, of Saint Stephens High School, recites “The Cross of Snow” by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.

Ruby was one of 26 semi-finalists and finalists who competed in the statewide Poetry Out Loud competition at the Museum of History in Raleigh, sponsored by the N.C. Arts Council.

The national Poetry Out Loud competition, sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation, encourages high school students to memorize and recite poetry while mastering public speaking skills, building self-confidence and learning about their literary heritage.

Ruby Osorio is my beloved theatre student at the tractor shed theatre at St. Stephens High School. Poetry Out Loud was an amazing project she competed in two years in a row. Ruby has recently been accepted into the University of NC School of the Arts high school theatre program. Thanks for posting her work :)
