Bring North Carolina’s Poet Laureate to Your Community

State poet laureates serve as ambassadors of North Carolina literature past and present and for all North Carolina writers — especially living writers. During their term, they seek to raise appreciation of the reading and writing of poetry throughout the state.

The poet laureate is available for readings, talks on the craft of writing, writing workshops and lectures.

Possible projects include:

• Partnerships with businesses to print and post poetry all over a town – in barbershops, gas stations, restaurants, libraries, grocery stores, schools, etc.
• Readings and workshops with audiences at locations not readily associated with poetry/literature; such as medical centers, meat processing plants, farms, faith communities, sports centers, corporate events, military bases.
• Programs in partnership with federal/state agencies; for example, the department of transportation, social services or justice.
• Partnerships with arts organizations or art groups that seek to create and present new work in collaboration with the poet.
