The National Endowment of the Arts awarded the North Carolina Arts Council the 2010 National Accessibility Leadership Award for its outstanding accessibility work.
Sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Assembly of State Arts Agencies (NASAA), the award recognizes exceptional initiatives or programs that make the arts accessible and inclusive for older adults and individuals with disabilities.
The award and a $30,000 grant were presented at NASAA’s annual conference in mid-October in Austin, Texas.
The Arts Council was recognized for many accomplishments including implementing an awareness-building and technical assistance campaign for cultural providers in N.C. This included a new Arts Inclusion section for its Web site (www.ncarts.org) and a checklist that is a required component of every grant application submitted to the Arts Council.
