|ArtsMarket is a biennial performing arts showcase conference co-produced by the N.C. Arts Council and N.C. Presenters Consortium. Hosted in Durham Monday, Nov. 7, through Wednesday, Nov. 9, showcases will be held in the historic Carolina Theatre, with the conference exhibit hall in the adjoining Marriott Durham Convention Center. Thirty-seven performing artists or groups will be selected to showcase to presenters through a juried process. Application fee applies.

The Morris Museum of Art announces the 2011 Porter Fleming Literary Competition, now in its 18th year recognizing outstanding writing in the Southeast. Writers may enter submissions in four categories: fiction, nonfiction, poetry and one-act plays. Entries must be original and unpublished. Writers ages 18 and older who reside in Georgia, Florida, Alabama, South Carolina and North Carolina are eligible. A total of $7,000 in cash prizes will be awarded. Entry fee applies.

Rockingham Arts Council, Wentworth
The Rockingham County Justice Center Artwork Committee and the Rockingham County Arts Council announce a call for artists requesting completed artwork by Rockingham County artists, or artists that have a direct link to Rockingham County, for a permanent exhibition in the new Justice Center in Wentworth. Additionally, requests for proposals to produce artwork for a permanent exhibition in the new Justice Center are also being accepted from Rockingham County artists, or artists that have a direct link to Rockingham County. The targeted completion date is fall 2011.

Bradenton Downtown Development Authority, Bradenton, Fla.
Bradenton Downtown Development Authority seeks RFQs from professional artists for public art pieces along its 1.5 mile riverfront park. Art to be commissioned includes: (a) monumentally scaled sculpture for the entry to a children and family oriented zone; (b) porous metalwork panels to define areas within the riverwalk; (c) metalwork or other attachments to railings along a boardwalk leading under a bridge; (d) imagery that captures and interprets local community history as related to the river in flat media that is permanent. Total budget of $250,000 will be allocated among the various projects and sites.

The City of Frisco is seeking qualifications from artists or design teams to design and integrate unique, public art elements into its existing wayfinding initiative. Art elements will be effective wayfinders and also help market, describe and define the community. The citywide wayfinding initiative will include up to seven primary and six secondary welcome signs, 88 internal vehicular signs and 16 pedestrian guide signs.

Artist are invited to participate in Durham’s second Pop Up Art Show and fundraiser to benefit The Scrap Exchange, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote creativity, environmental awareness and community through reuse. The Pop Up Art Show will take place Saturday, June 18, from 7 to 10 p.m., at the MoBo studio in Durham. Artists may exhibit one piece of art, ready to hang, and they are asked to donate a portion of the sales to The Scrap Exchange. Multiple pieces may be accepted if space permits.

STart has two opportunities for temporary artwork installations in Tacoma, Wash.: one is a light-based installation for Tacoma Dome District and the other is a temporary greenroof/rooftop garden for Tacoma Dome District. The City of Clearwater Public Art and Design program seeks up to three artists for a temporary sculpture exhibition, Sculpture360: Season IV, from September 2011 to August 2012. The City of Calgary Public Art Program and Transportation Department are seeking a professional artist or artist team to create a public art work for the highly visible screening walls of the new Martindale Light Rail Transit station. The goal is to have a site specific public artwork integrated into the screening wall structure. This is an international call to artists experienced with projects of this scope and scale.
