Cape Fear Regional Theatre has hired Tom Quaintance as the incoming artistic director. Quaintance will take the helm of CFRT in September as it celebrates its 50th anniversary.
He served as the director in residence for this year’s production of Hairspray. The director and arts educator from Los Angeles has more than 18 years of professional experience, and has wowed audiences from coast to coast during his award-winning career.
A search committee appointed by the CFRT board of directors spent nearly two years looking for an artistic director to carry on the work done by Bo Thorp, who will continue to work with CFRT as the organization’s founding artistic director. “Tom Quaintance is an amazing director and educator who will successfully lead Cape Fear Regional Theatre into its next chapter,” Thorp said.
Quaintance’s career highlights include serving as associate artist at PlayMakers Repertory Company in Chapel Hill; founding the award-winning FreightTrain Shakespeare in Los Angeles; and being a member of the directing teams for the Broadway sensation How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying with Matthew Broderick and Megan Mullaly and the national tour of The Who’s Tommy.
