Original writing that portrays North Carolina, its people and culture is eligible to win the 2011 Linda Flowers Literary Award, awarded annually by the N.C. Humanities Council in Greensboro. Entries of unpublished fiction, nonfiction or poetry are welcome to the competition, which awards $500 in cash, publication in the Humanities Council’s biannual magazine North Carolina Conversations, and support towards a weeklong writer’s residency at Weymouth Center for the Arts and Humanities in Southern Pines. Authors are not required to be North Carolinians, but entries are expected to draw on N.C. connections and/or memories. Deadline for submissions is Monday, Aug. 15 and there is no fee to enter. For a complete description and full submission guidelines, visit the N.C. Humanities Council website at www.nchumanities.org.
