The N.C. Arts Council is pleased to share the following opportunities for artists that have recently been submitted to us. Please contact the organization listed if you have any questions.

The Arts Council does not endorse or recommend any specific opportunities, but provides this list for information only. We encourage artists to research each opportunity thoroughly before applying. Artist opportunities may be submitted to jennifer.huggins@ncdcr.gov.

General Artist Opportunities

ArtsLink Projects, New York, N.Y.
ArtsLink Projects provides support to U.S. artists, curators, presenters and arts organizations undertaking projects in any of the 32 eligible countries listed on the website. Applicants must be working with an artist or organization in that region, and projects should be designed to benefit participants and audiences in both the U.S. and the host country. Maximum award is $10,000.

I-Park Foundation, East Haddam, Conn.
The I-Park Foundation Inc., a 450-acre natural woodland retreat, is accepting applications for its self-directed artists’ residencies. Residencies are offered from May through November 2012, with possible off-season sessions in April and December. Most sessions are four weeks. Work samples are evaluated through a competitive, juried process. Accommodations include room and board, wireless Internet and library facilities. Application fee applies.

Performing Arts

American Voices, St. Louis, Mo.
American Voices, in partnership with the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, is now accepting ensemble applications for the American Music Abroad 2012-2013 touring season. The American Music Abroad program sends American music bands from a wide variety of musical genres on month-long musical exchange tours.

Creative Capital, New York, N.Y.
Creative Capital will begin accepting online letters of inquiry for grants in emerging fields, literature and performing arts on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012. Creative Capital provides integrated financial and advisory support to artists pursuing innovative and adventurous projects. Selected grantees receive up to $50,000 in direct support and a suite of services valued at more than $40,000.

Literary Arts

River Styx St. Louis, Mo.
River Styx is accepting entries for the 2012 Schlafly Beer Micro-Fiction Contest. Manuscripts of 500 words maximum per story are eligible; up to three stories per entry. All previously unpublished stories will be considered for publication. The selected writer will receive $1,500, publication and other merchandise. Entry fee applies.

Cream City Review, Milwaukee, Wis.
Cream City Review, a nonprofit literary magazine, announces its annual contests in poetry, fiction and creative nonfiction. Prose should be no longer than 30 pages; limit three to five poems. First place winners receive $1,000 and publication. Entry fee applies.

Chautauqua Institution, Chautauqua, N.Y.
The Chautauqua Prize is a national prize that celebrates a book of fiction or literary/narrative nonfiction that provides a richly rewarding reading experience and honors the author for a significant contribution to the literary arts. Eligible books will have been published in English in the U.S. in 2011. Nominations will be accepted from publishers, agents, authors and readers. The award is $7,500 and a one-week summer residency at Chautauqua Institution. Nomination fee applies.

ZenFri Inc. is publishing an anthology of works in early 2012 and is now accepting submissions of the boldest, most unusual and provocative short fiction and visual art. Published and unpublished works are accepted. Selected artists will be compensated for the use of their work.

North Carolina Writers’ Network
The N.C. Writers’ Network is now accepting submissions for the 2012 Thomas Wolfe Fiction Prize. The competition is open to all writers regardless of geographical location or prior publication. The winner receives $1,000 and possible publication in The Thomas Wolfe Review. Entry fee applies

Stanford University, Stanford, Calif.
Stanford University Libraries, in partnership with the William Saroyan Foundation, has announced the fifth William Saroyan International Prize for Writing. Intended to encourage new or emerging writers, the Saroyan Prize recognizes newly published works of both fiction and nonfiction. A prize of $5,000 will be awarded in each category.

Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio
Ohio State University Press is accepting entries for it prize in short fiction. The competition is open to all writers in English. Submissions may include short stories, novellas or a combination of both; a single novella is not an eligible submission. The winning author will receive a standard book contract that includes a cash prize of $1,500 as an advance against royalties. Entry fee applies.

The ArtsCenter, Carrboro
The ArtsCenter announces a call for submissions for the 11th annual 10 by 10 Festival in the Triangle, an international festival of new, 10-minute plays. A panel of judges will select 10 plays to showcase at The ArtsCenter Thursday, July 8, through Sunday, July 25. Submissions will be accepted Monday, Jan. 9, through Friday, Feb. 3. No submissions will be accepted prior to January 9.

Salem College, Winston-Salem
Salem College is now accepting submissions for the International Literary Awards which include three competitions: The Reynolds Price Short Fiction Award (short story); the Rita Dove Poetry Award (poem up to 100 lines); and the Penelope Niven Creative Nonfiction Award (single piece of creative nonfiction). The award for first place in each category is $1,200. Cash prizes for honorable mentions will also be awarded. Entry fee applies.

Trio Press House, Staten Island, N.Y.
Trio Press House accepts submissions for two awards annually: The Trio Award for First or Second Book is open to emerging poets with less than two books published; and the Louise Bogan Award for Artistic Merit and Excellence which honors a book of poems contributing in an innovative and distinct way to American poetry and is open to all poets. The winning poets receive $1,000 and 20 copies of his or her book. Entry fee applies.

My Sister’s House, Rocky Mount
My Sister’s House, a domestic violence and sexual assault resource center, is registering artists for the annual art sale fundraiser. There is no cost to show work. Artists designate how much of their sales will be donated to My Sister’s House. The sale will be held Friday, Jan. 27, 2012, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Booker T. Theater on the newly renovated Douglas Block in downtown Rocky Mount.

Full Frame Documentary Film Festival, Durham
The Garrett Scott Documentary Development Grant provides funds for first time documentary filmmakers to attend the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival in Durham. Two filmmakers will be chosen for the 2012 grant. Grant recipients will be given access to films, participate in master classes and be mentored by experienced filmmakers throughout the four-day festival.

Cleveland County Arts Council, Shelby
Entries for the 13th annual Real to Reel International Film Festival are now being accepted. The Real to Reel International Film Festival showcases talent and diversity of filmmakers of all ages and backgrounds and offers contestants the opportunity to compete for cash prizes in various categories. The 2012 festival will be held Wednesday, July 18, through Saturday, July 21, at the Joy Performance Center in Kings Mountain.
