Four North Carolina communities have received a total of $500,000 in National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Our Town grants for creative placemaking projects.
In 2011 the City of Wilson received $250,000 for the Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park. This year $250,000 was shared by Charlotte, Kinston and Star.
Partnerships between local government and arts organizations help transform communities into vibrant spaces with arts at their core. Projects revitalize downtowns and neighborhoods, instill a sense of place and pride in residents, attract creative workers and cultural travelers and create sustainable economic development.
