Founded in 1987, Manbites Dog spent its first 10 years as an itinerant theater company, mounting plays in a variety of rented spaces including vacant stores. It secured a permanent home in downtown Durham which opened to the public in 1998. Manbites Dog produces new and challenging theatrical events, showcases and nurtures developing playwrights, directors, actors, and artists, facilitates cross-disciplinary and cross-community projects, and helps strengthen the region’s theatrical community. It has mounted more than 100 productions, many of them regional or state premieres, as well as a broad range of local and national guest artists and companies in its Other Voices series.
