The Center for Craft, Creativity & Design brought The People’s Cloth Trade Show to Asheville earlier this month.
The exhibit used the trade show format to create an approachable, immersive environment for visitors to learn about North Carolina textile manufacturing – its history, production methods, and global context. Interactive and visual displays, video demonstrations, and hands-on making opportunities were available to visitors.
Artist Carole Frances Lung created her alter ego Frau Fiber to demonstrate the experience of die machine vs. hand werk textile and garment production.
The People’s Cloth Trade Show received in-kind support from creative industry businesses The Oriole Mill, Echoview Fiber Mill, Valdese Weavers, Warren Wilson College, The Drygoods Shop, New World Textiles, Textile Technology Center at Gaston College, and Highland Brewing Company.
