Six Days in November

SIx_DaysWith the Piedmont Craftsmen’s Fair as its centerpiece, Six Days in November celebrates the arts in Winston-Salem with 165 events scheduled between Tuesday, Nov. 16, and Sunday, Nov. 21. On opening day of the festival, the Arts Council of Winston-Salem and Forsyth County and the Penland School of Craft will open Identity, a free exhibition of Penland School artists and craftsmen at the Milton Rhodes Center for the Arts’ Womble Carlyle Gallery.

The University of North Carolina School of the Arts features its fall dance program including dance styles and music from the work of Bessie Award-winning choreographer Doug Elkins from Wednesday, Nov. 17, through Sunday, Nov. 21, at UNC School of the Art’s de Mille Theatre. Jazz legend, drummer and vibraphonist Joe Chambers, the Thomas S. Kenan Distinguished Professor of Jazz at UNC Wilmington, joins the UNC School of the Arts Jazz Ensemble Tuesday, Nov. 16, at 7:30 p.m. at Thrust Theatre, Performance Place.

Renowned choral conductor Donald Neuen is the guest conductor for Haydn’s musical depiction of the beginning of the world, The Creation, performed  by the North Carolina Symphony and the Winston-Salem State University Choir Sunday, Nov. 21, at 3 p.m. at the Stevens Center. While you’re in town, visit Reynolda House Museum of American Art to view Virtue Vice and Wisdom, check out Delta Fine Arts’ Chittlin’ Circuit Review exhibition or visit the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art (SECCA) for a free opening event for Shinique Smith: Every Brick and Glenda Wharton: The Zo on Thursday, Nov. 18. Throughout the week, the Winston-Salem Light Project by the UNC School of the Arts School of Design and Production will provide artful illuminations of entire facades of downtown buildings in various locations after dark.
